Met (www.themet.site) is a free site where members see a graph of the people they've crossed paths with, connect with each other, and suggest introductions. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect, who can see it, and how to delete it.
What we collect
When you sign in
- Your email address. You sign in with Google or with a one-time link sent to your email. If you use Google, we receive your email and the name on your Google account (we use the name only to pre-fill your display name, which you can change). We don't use your Google profile photo.
What you add to your profile
- Your display name and @username (required).
- A profile photo, if you upload one (we resize it to 256×256).
- Your university and campus, if you add them.
- Optionally: a short bio, links, a contact email to show on your profile, and your major.
What you do on Met
- Your connections and connection requests.
- Introductions: who suggested that two members meet, and whether each accepted.
- Your settings: whether your profile is Public or Private, and whether we may email you.
- A record of notification emails we send (who, about what, and when), so we can limit how many you get.
Technical data
- Cookies that keep you signed in, and one that remembers which page to return to after signing in.
- Standard server logs from our hosting provider (such as IP address and browser type), used to run and secure the site.
We don't use advertising or analytics trackers, and we don't sell your data.
Who can see what
- Always visible to signed-in members: your display name, @username, photo, university and campus, and your confirmed connections.
- Visible to anyone with your profile link (even signed out): your display name, @username and photo.
- Your bio, links, contact email and major follow your profile setting. Public: any signed-in member can see them. Private (the default): only you and people you're connected with. A pending request doesn't unlock a private profile. These rules are enforced by our database, not just hidden in the app.
- Pending requests and introductions are visible only to the people involved.
- Your sign-in email is never shown to other members. We use it only to sign you in and to send you the emails described below.
How we use it
- To run Met: show your graph, find people, and handle connections and introductions.
- To email you when someone sends you a connection request or suggests an introduction involving you. Each email has an unsubscribe link, and you can turn these emails off in your profile settings.
- To keep Met safe, for example by limiting how many notification emails one person can trigger.
Services we use
These companies process data for us, only to provide Met:
- Supabase: sign-in, our database and photo storage.
- Vercel: hosting for the website.
- Resend: sending notification emails.
- Google: sign-in, if you choose “Continue with Google”.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete your account anytime in Met (My profile → Edit profile and privacy → Delete my profile). That permanently removes your account, profile, photo, connections, requests, introductions, settings and notification records. Other members' profiles aren't affected. Copies in our providers' routine backups expire on their normal schedule.
Your choices
- Edit or remove anything on your profile at any time.
- Switch your profile between Public and Private.
- Turn notification emails off (in your profile, or with the link in any email).
- Delete your account.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it, by emailing us.
Children
You must be at least 18 to use Met. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger; if we learn we have, we delete the account.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and tell members about important changes.
